The College has built a spacious Central Library spanning a total floor area of 4504 sqft. Combining aesthetics with utility, the modern Library houses documents consisting of Technical Books, Full Text E-Resources, Bibliographic Databases, Journals both print and on-line, Digital resources reports, Theses, standards and back volumes of journals. The library subscribes printed journals and technical magazines .We have separate collection of books such as Book Bank, Career & Personality Development, Fiction etc. Besides the Central library, there are 8 department libraries, each with more than 1000 documents. Library follows the open access system The Library also subscribes to E-Journals .The Library comes with provision for modern facilities including Library Automation, Research Scholars Cubicle, Tutorial Room, IEEE Branch Library, Multi Media Center, Stack Section, Reference Section, and Circulation Section with advanced computers and other peripherals connected in LAN. The Reference section has open as well as closed access. It also has a network linked Photocopier installed to enable students to make printouts/copies. The Issue section has open access.
Two libraries are functioning at SNIT, main central library and MBA departmental library. Sections for B tech students are arranged in the central library.
Both libraries are aimed to support the teaching learning process of the institution. B tech library has been functioning since 2011 and MBA library from 09th October 2013 onwards.
Both libraries are kept open from 8.30am to 5.00pm. Library will be closed on public holidays. The members should close their duties at 4.45pm for the further clearing of the work in the library.
Library collection includes Books, Journals, Magazines, and Newspapers etc…
As the library is a place of individual study, members should maintain quiet atmosphere inside the library. Combined study, class, discussion etc are not allowed/encouraged .Members have the privilege of direct access to the shelves in the stack room and the reading hall. They have full freedom to browse among the books. It is important that the classified arrangement of the books according to their class number is maintained in the shelves. Books can be freely taken out of the shelves but on no account they can be misplaced. For the better use members can seek the help of the library staff.
5. MAJOR FACILITIES FOR USERS
Library follows the open access system; hence the members have a privilege to direct access to the shelves in the stack room and the reading hall. They have full freedom to browse among the books. Three cards are given to the students and six to the faculties. Students can retain books for 14 days including the day of lending. On the 15th day the book should be returned. For delayed return defaulters will be fined Rs 1 per day per book. The classified arrangement of the books according to the subject is so helpful to the users for taking books from the rack. There are two different sections of books the stack area. Reference and lending. Reference books are not for issuing, but for the reference in the library itself and also for taking photocopy. Library has enough titles and volumes and multiple copies of the books according to the syllabus.
Library has 3 major sections. Reading section, Periodical section and the Digital library section.
There are 54 Journals in total both National and International for Btech and Mtech separately in different branches present in the library. The users can use and a provision for taking photocopy also.
The following facilities are available for using E-resources
Reprography section is functioning with recent amount for taking copy and print
Students have individual library hours assigned by the concerned staff. This is so helpful for their assignments and seminars and keeps more attention to the books than the normal working hours.
Previous years question papers are kept in the library and the students have a facility to take photocopy.
Library has a facility of keeping teachers’ notes both in soft and hard copies for the convenience of the students. Users can refer and take print also.
Library has other resources like newspapers, magazines, CDs etc. All the back volumes of newspapers, periodicals etc. are kept separately.
According to the register statistics, library has 17500 volumes and 4096 titles at present and it will have been increasing accordingly.
MBA section has also a separate library with 4771 volumes of Management and related books and it has 1192 titles also. Moreover the library has a facility of searching National Digital Library, by this the user can browse enough matters related with their subject and can focused on other wide area of different subjects.
MBA library also using the same Delnet, NDL, and Knimbus for E-resources.
MBA library has 06 National and 06 International journals and has a separate section of digital library with 30 systems. MBA library also enjoys with all the same facilities that are in the Engineering library.
All the students and other members are using the above mentioned facilities very well and the library staff is always at their service also.
