Prof. (Dr.) Prekasan D, Principal
Prof. (Dr.) Prekasan D is a highly respected academic leader, researcher, and administrator with more than three and a half decades of distinguished service in technical education and institutional development. With an exceptional blend of academic excellence, industry exposure, and administrative leadership, he has played a pivotal role in shaping quality engineering education in Kerala.
A Doctorate holder in Mechanical Engineering from Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Prof. Prekasan possesses an impressive academic portfolio that includes M.Tech in Production Engineering, B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, and advanced professional qualifications in technical teaching, foremanship, and traditional architecture (Vastu Sasthram). His multidisciplinary expertise reflects his commitment to both modern engineering practices and holistic knowledge systems.
Throughout his career in the Technical Education Department, Government of Kerala, he has served with distinction as Workshop Instructor, Lecturer, Head of Department, Superintendent, and Principal, providing visionary leadership in academics, governance, and quality assurance. His contributions have been instrumental in strengthening outcome-based education, accreditation processes, curriculum reforms, and institutional best practices.
An accomplished researcher, Prof. Prekasan has made significant contributions in the areas of biotribology, biomaterials, modelling and simulation, and advanced production processes. He has authored and co-authored numerous research papers published in reputed international journals by Springer, Elsevier, SN Applied Sciences, McGraw Hill, and IJSER, earning recognition in both national and international academic circles. He has also presented his research at prestigious conferences including those held at IISc Bangalore, CUSAT, and leading universities across India.
Beyond academics and research, Prof. Prekasan has been a driving force in institutional growth and student development. He has held key leadership roles such as Institutional Coordinator for Accreditation (NBA/NAAC), Member of the Board of Governors, Nodal Officer of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell, Secretary of ISTE Chapter, and OBE workforce member. His active involvement in faculty development, innovation initiatives, entrepreneurship promotion, and examination reforms has significantly enhanced institutional performance and student outcomes.
His excellence in teaching and mentorship was nationally recognized when he received the Best Polytechnic Teacher Award from ISTE (Kerala) in 2011. Further elevating his profile, he was selected by AICTE as one among 20 faculty members from across India for the prestigious VELT Programme (2016), which included an academic exposure visit to Australia to study global best practices in technical education.
